Sights Around North Florida


North Central Florida is a beautiful area with rolling hills, scenic rivers, "grand-daddy" oaks, and gorgeous countryside. It's a GREAT place to live!!! Here are some links to activities in the area.


Troy Spring State Park in Branford lets divers enjoy the wreckage of a Civil War era steamboat. Canoe, fish, or splash around.

Cedar Key Enjoy the National Wildlife Refuge or spend time in the galleries, restaurants, and mid-1800's hotel.

Cedar Key Museum State Park includes a restored 1920's home, exhibits of sea shells and Indian artifacts.

Hippodrome State Theater, Gainesville

Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, Gainesville

Florida Museum of Natural History contains a butterfly rainforest, hands-on discovery room, and lots of fossils. Be ready for political correctness!

Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park is a 120 feet deep sink hole that has a miniature rain forest in it.

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park, near Gainesville, allows us to live in the 1930's on the farm that belonged to the author of The Yearling.

Ichetucknee Springs State Park, Fort White is a fantastic place to go tubing, picnicking, snorkeling, or canoeing. Those who are cave-diving, scuba-certified can dive during the winter months.

Blue Spring State Park, High Springs, is a natural spring popular for tubing, snorkeling, swimming, and diving. During the winter the park is closed because it is a manatee refuge.

Historic Hamilton County Jail, built in 1893, is now a museum.

Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park, Lake City, hosts a reenactment each February of a Civil War battle.

Lake City-Columbia County Historical Museum has exhibits related to the history of Columbia County.

Wardlaw-Smith-Goza Mansion, Madison, was used as a hospital during the Battle of Olustee. This Southern mansion is available for weddings and conferences, and may be toured by appointment.

Ladell Brothers Outdoor Environmental Center, Madison is a nature center than offers a variety of habitats including swamp, march, ponds, woods, grasslands, and a planted field.

Micanopy Fall Harvist Festival occurs in October and is full of arts and crafts. Micanopy has a historical museum and classic homes that are now bed-and-breakfasts. This was the town where the movie Doc Hollywood was filmed!

Wellborn Blueberry Festival occurs in June.

Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, White Springs, honors the memory of composer Stephen Foster.

Goodwood Museum and Gardens, Tallahassee, was originally a home built in 1840 and is now a museum that has many furnishings from the early twentieth century.

The Brogan Museum, Tallahassee, has educational programs in addition to its usual exhibits.
