Individuals, private schools, and homeschool support groups are among the many options that offer classes to homeschooled children and teens. As always, check to make sure that the materials used and educational philosophy match your family's. Below are some of the local possibilities:
What Is a Co-op?
A co-op, or cooperative, refers to a group of homeschooing parents who share teaching responsibility for a variety of topics. The group meets periodically, usually one to two times per week, to have classes. Each parent is required to participate by either teaching a class or providing administrative support. Usually in a co-op, the classes are free, or a minimal charge for supplies may apply. Alternatively, outside instructors may be brought in for a fee. Some parents who are highly qualified in their field may also charge a fee. Homeschooling parents frequently find co-ops to be an outstanding way to supplement their child's education especially in areas where the parents' knowledge may not be strong.
